SOLO AN ORIGINAL MK9 SPITFIRE
Once you have completed one of the above Spitfire Conversion Courses you will have the opportunity to progress onto this course, ultimately enabling you the chance to fly a wartime Mk9 single seat Spitfire solo from Goodwood over and around the south of the UK..After having flown one of our two seat Spitfires with an instructor and completed the conversion course to a good standard you will undertake 5 to 10 hours training in our Spitfire Mk9 Simulator. On completion of this training, and a thorough brief on the aircraft, you will be able to fly our Mk9 Spitfire RR232 for a maximum of 3 hours. This is a world first opportunity to fly a single seat Spitfire solo.

SPITFIRE MK9 MH415 - FOR SALE

MH415 was built by the Castle Bromwich Aeroplane factory as a Mk.IX Spitfire under construction number CBAF5542 in 1943. On the 24th September 1943 MH415 claimed a FW-190 ‘Victory’ north-west of Amiens in France whilst being flown by F/O Desmond F. Ruchwaldy during Ramrod 242, a mission to escort 12 Mitchell bombers detailed to attack the Amiens marshalling yards. This Spitfire is a truly exceptional example being over 95% complete of original parts. MH415 stayed fully assembled (other than for shipping and maintenance) from its date of manufacture right through to the commencement or it restoration in 2015 (completed to airworthy in 2021). A truly remarkable aircraft with documented WW2 combat history. It even made an appearance in the 1960’s Michael Caine film, The Battle of Britain. The aircraft currently wears the livery scheme of RAF 222 (Natal) Squadron ‘ZD-E’ as flown between October to December 1943.

Spitfires.com has a number of sites around the country from which it operates remotely. Exeter was the first site that was established away from Goodwood and proved a huge success, so much so that we now visit for a couple of weeks each year bringing a variety of different aircraft each time. Exeter's location on the south coast of Devon makes it ideal venue from which to enjoy flights in warbirds over some of the most beautiful countryside that the country has to offer, including Dartmoor, the rolling lush green hills that Devon is famous for, The Jurassic coastline to the east and beautiful rocky inlets around Dartmouth and Salcombe. In addition the lack of airspace means you have the ultimate freedom when flying so unless you've chosen to fly alongside another warbird it's unlikely that you'll see another aircraft in the sky.
HISTORY
In World War II RAF Exeter was an important RAF Fighter Command airfield during the Battle of Britain. RAF Exeter was used by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Ninth Air Force as a D-Day troop transport base with Douglas C-47 Skytrain transports dropping paratroopers near Carentan to land on the Normandy Beachhead.
During the Battle of Britain the RAF's No 10 Group had 307 (Polish) Squadron, 213 Squadron, 87 Squadron and 601 Squadron all based at Exeter Airport. The airfield suffered quite badly from aerial assaults and despite efforts at camouflage, including painting the runways, Exeter still attracted the Luftwaffe and most administrative and technical buildings were destroyed.

HISTORY
Situated almost equidistant between Glasgow and Edinburgh Cumbernauld Airport gives exceptional access to both cities, acting as a gateway to the glorious surroundings of the Scottish Highlands to the north without the restrictions of an International Airport.
Whilst any route of flight will be considered according to the customer's requests, the majority of our flights will take passengers into the Trossachs for a loop around some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. And what better way to see it than over the wing of a Spitfire or a P51 Mustang.
Cumbernauld Airport does not have any specific wartime history the man that made it the successful aerodrome it is currently was a wartime Spitfire and Mustang pilot. Post war Duncan McIntosh went on to co-found, and become the Chief Pilot for Loganair, an airline that was set up to provide transport for Willie Logan's employees to the most extreme parts of the Scottish Islands. Now many roads in and around the airport are named after Duncan in his memory.

Where to fly a spitfire in the UK?
Our main office is based in West Sussex at Goodwood Aerodrome. The airfield is based on the Goodwood Estate and has been used since the early 1940’s. Pilots were trained here to perform operational flying techniques in both Hurricanes and Supermarine Spitfires. We also operate from another airfield, Solent Airport Daedalus which is in Hampshire, just along the South Coast from our headquarters at Goodwood Aerodrome.
We offer several Spitfire flights from Goodwood, starting from a 30 minute experience over the English Channel, to a 75 minute experience which would take you over the White Cliffs of Dover and many more historical and picturesque locations.
Our flights range from 30 minutes to 75 minutes, depending on your wishes and the route you would like to take.
