Jon started flying at University and was selected by British Airways to join their Sponsored Pilot Training Scheme. On graduation he began flying as a First Officer on the Boeing 737 and later, the 777.
Jon completed a tailwheel conversion at Clacton on the PA18 Super Cub in 1992 and qualified as a Flying Instructor the following year, gaining experience on a variety of taildraggers including the Tiger Moth, Stampe and Pitts Special. In 2002 he began instructing on the North American T6/Harvard.
Over the years, Jon has owned a Stampe, a Stolp Starduster and a Christen Eagle II, in which he has competed in UK aerobatic events. In 2004 he joined his colleague Richard Dauncey in a project to restore and operate their own T6. This they achieved in 2006 and they have been instructing on their T6 since then. Jon also holds an aerobatic Display Authorisation for the aircraft. In 2006 Jon gained his command, and he has subsequently qualified as a Training Captain for the Airbus A320 series.
Jon lives in London with Imogen and their 3 year old son, Bo.
Jon flies the Chipmunk and Harvard for the Academy.
